Blog for Darfur

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

I previously wrote about Darfur as part of my Things You Should Know About series. I forget sometimes that many people still don’t know what is going on in Darfur, despite the push by George Clooney and other celebs to get the word out. The American media just doesn’t think it’s that important.

In an effort to spread the word about Darfur, I’d like to ask all of you to participate in Blog for Darfur Day, which will be held January 4th. All you have to do is write something on your blog, post some photos if you’re a photoblogger, or help spread the word about Darfur.

I’m not naive. I know that this won’t solve the problems in Darfur. I know that there are other things out there that I could be doing, like ending world hunger. That’s a worthy cause. But I can’t sit on my ass while a culture is being wiped off the face of the earth. I’m not that kind of person. If you can’t do this, or don’t want to, then don’t think about it. It won’t hurt me any. But if you do want to do this, then read on.

When is it?

I’m asking everyone that wants to participate to blog on January 4th, 2007.

What if I can’t participate?

If you can’t post something on that day, why not help spread the word? Link back to this post and you’ll be all set. If you want to write about Darfur, then you can always write about it anyday you feel like.

What can I write about?

You can write a general overview of what’s going on in Darfur, like I did for the Things You Should Know About series. You can post pictures, write an opinion piece, pick a story that you’ve seen about a person or group that’s helping to spread the word about Darfur, or anything else you feel the need to discuss.

So you want to do it?

Great! Just leave a comment or email me at joshanastasia [at] gmail [dot] com. I’m going to make a list of all the bloggers participating and post them up along with some buttons to help you spread the word.

  1. I will proboably participate. Nothing definite, but if I can I definitely will since this is an important issue for world peace.

  2. Arthus, you are awesome. If you can’t, then no worries. You can write about it whenever you want to.
