I’m wearing shorts!
Well, it’s currently 47 F here, and while that might not be considered shorts weather in most places around the world, it’s definitely shorts weather here. For the past couple of days, I’ve been partaking in the nice warm(er) weather and have been playing basketball most every day. I haven’t played basketball in god knows how long, probably since high school when I played on the basketball team, which by the way, I was pretty good. I mean, I wasn’t good enough to even think about having a career in it, but I could hold my own. Besides, baseball has always been my sport.
Since it’s been so warm here the past few days I haven’t even really noticed the rain. We’ll be getting rain for a long time, our rain season lasts pretty long, but that’s what happens when you live directly west of the Great Lakes. Damn those lakes. But, water never melted me any, so I’m all set. I even went for a walk in the rain. In San Diego, when it rained, it poured. Sometimes it would sprinkle, but mostly it would pour. Pouring rain is always fun, but when you have like a million neighbors, that’s not cool.
I’m starting to make plans for my summer. I have a trip back to San Diego planned, possibly a road trip up to Northern Cali, because god knows, Lisa wants to have a get together
. Who knows, I might even plan a trip out of the country. I just want to do a lot of traveling this summer. I like traveling and I haven’t done enough of it.
When I was a kid, our family vacations usually consisted of all six of us piled in a car, note that I said car and not mini-van. We would take the 2 hour trip to see my Aunt in Central New York, possibly spend a couple days there, and come home. When my family did decide to venture out of New York, it never went well. One year we decided to go visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins in South Carolina. 14 hours in a car with 5 other people is not fun. That’s just one way by the way. We stayed in a crappy little hotel not far from my family’s house. My dad was cheap and didn’t want to get us our own room, so all six of us shared 2 double beds. My dad is one of those people that snores at night. I don’t mean bearable snoring. When he snores it sounds like the Americans invading Normandy. Or there are a billion Black Hawks flying around over your house. The only people that slept that night were my mom and my dad.
On the way home my dad had the bright idea to make a stop in Washington D.C. I should also say that this was July 4th weekend. We didn’t make any sort of hotel reservations. Who does that? Just decides to go to Washington D.C. on a whim on July 4th? We drove around the city, and I mean the whole city, and we couldn’t find a hotel. I did get to see a prostitute though, so that made me happy. He then had the bright idea to try Ocean Beach, MD. Same thing happened, minus the prostitute.
The only other trip that I remember was when we went to Disneyland. I didn’t get to go, I got sick and ended up staying in the condo by myself for a couple days while they went out and had their fun. I mean, damn, I really wanted to ride the tea cups. Seriously. I do, however, have a neat little story about a friend that I met down there that I had been talking to on the internet forever and how I met her cousin, who turned out to be someone famous. Well, famous at the time. That’s for another post though.
So, I’m making travel plans, and hopefully, they’ll go a whole lot better then those road trips went. Where should I go? I’m planning to stick mostly to the U.S. and Canada if I do go anywhere besides California. Chicago? Toronto? I’m not sure. Any suggestions?
